Gibson Arnold & Associates is looking for a Probate Paralegal/Professional for a litigation project adjudicating injury/loss claims stemming from the Flint, Michigan water crisis. The role will assist in determining the appropriate probate relationships required for filing claims on behalf of minors in legally incapacitated individuals. Basically, the role will help assure the correct person is filing the claim based on their relationship to the claimant. For example, if the claim is being brought by a grandparent or other family member, a birth certificate will be needed. If it’s just an acquaintance, another combination of documents will be needed.

This is a contract position that is expected to last 7 months. Hours are approximately 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The position is located in the Houston office located in the Galleria area. The role will begin on-site at the office then will shift to remote once things are going smoothly.

The probate paralegal processes settlement claims for deceased, incapacitated and minor claimants in a nationally prominent mass tort. This role ensures that claims belonging to deceased, incapacitated and minor claimants are processed in accordance with the Court’s order. The probate paralegal works directly with, and takes direction from, project and operational leader to resolve probate and other legal issues on a large volume of case volumes.

The probate paralegal position is a critical one in claims administration process for this project. Candidates must have strong experience with probate matters and accurate work product is absolutely essential. Candidates must be self-starters who can work independently, but with the awareness to know when to “raise their hand” for support or guidance when necessary.

The company will certainly coach you up on all of this. They just need someone with some decent probate exposure.


  • Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred
  • 4+ years probate administration experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Superior time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience with cases involving Minors
